BMW driver had 'been at a pub' when police stopped him over drink drive limit

A BMW driver told a court "I'd been at a pub" after admitting he had been over the drink-drive limit when he was stopped by police.

Gage Green gave the explanation as he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (May 25) and pleaded guilty to drink-driving in a BMW 118.

The court heard the offence was on May 7 this year when he was driving along Derby Road, Eastwood, and had 57 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, over the limit of 35.

Green, 22, of Meadow Road, Awsworth, was stopped at 10.31pm and was over the limit at the roadside.

An evidential test came back with a reading of 57 micrograms.

Green, who is of good character and with no previous convictions, represented himself at the short hearing.

He said, at the time, he was coming from Eastwood to Langley Mill, and "I'd been at a pub. I was on my way home".

He said he worked full-time "on lorries" and has done so for two and a half years.

Green was given full credit for his plea of guilty at the first opportunity. His family circumstances were taken into account.

He was fined £265, ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £34 victim surcharge. He was also offered the drink-drive rehabilitation course which, if completed, could reduce a 12-month driving ban imposed.
