BMW driver charged over East Lancs crash which killed taxi driver and mum-of-two

A BMW driver has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a crash claimed the lives of a taxi driver and a mum-of-two passenger ten months ago.

Taxi driver Dave Sherwin, 51, suffered fatal injuries when the Ford Mondeo he was driving was involved in a serious crash with a BMW on the East Lancs Road in Croxteth around 5am on February 27.

Passenger Michelle Jennings, 35, a mother-of two from Fazakerley was killed in the crash.

Mr Sherwin died on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 in hospital.

Today police confirmed ten months on they have now charged the BMW driver.

Police said 26-year-old, Ryan Howard of Windermere Avenue, St Helens has been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

He is to appear at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates Court on Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

Michelle Jennings left a devastated family behind including husband Ged and children, five year-old daughter Sophia and son Harry, seven.

Paying tribute to his ‘beautiful’ wife in a moving Facebook post, Ged said: “She was the most lovely person ever. Her kids were her world. Family was her everything. I am beyond distraught. I didn’t deserve her.”

The devastated family of Mr Sherwin said they had been "hoping for a miracle" which never came and told the ECHO how Mr Sherwin's organs had been donated to give others "the gift of life."

His heartbroken brother Ian described Mr Sherwin's death as "devastating."

He added: "The amount of messages and support that we have had from friends, neighbours and total strangers, has been quite overwhelming."

He also described Mr Sherwin as being "as strong as an ox".
