BMW driver caught speeding near City Hospital fined more than £1k

Speeding on two different roads proved a costly mistake for one driver who has to pay a financial penalty of more than £1,000.

Software engineer Gary Reid appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on the speeding charges after pleading guilty.

The 54-year-old, of Revelstoke Way, Rise Park, had admitted driving a BMW at 52mph in a 30mph limit on the A611 Hucknall Road, near City Hospital, Nottingham, on April 14, 2019.

He also drove the same BMW on the A60 Mansfield Road, near St Andrew's Road, Mapperley Park, at 45mph in a 30mph limit on October 20, 2019.

Through his lawyer, Reid put forward an "exceptional hardship" argument to keep his licence but this not granted by magistrates after they heard the details about the case.

Reid previously had six points on his licence for two offences of speeding in 2019.

The court heard he has to drive during the course of his employment and usually drives 25,000 miles a year and he is in a specialist role.

He was given six penalty points for each speeding offence, making the total 12, and he was banned from driving for six months.

He was fined £650 for the first speeding offence and £433 for the second, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £108 and costs of £65.
