BMW driven at group of people fighting in middle of Manchester street

A BMW was driven at a group of people during a disturbance in north Manchester.

The drama unfolded close to the Ye Olde Golden Lion pub on Old Market Street in Blackley just after 10:30pm last night.

An eyewitness said they saw a man on the floor being attacked by a group before a BMW was driven at them.

All those involved fled before the emergency services arrived.

However police say their enquiries so far have confirmed that "there had been an altercation outside a property before a car was driven at a group of people."

An investigation has been launched with officers trying to trace those involved.

The Manchester Evening News has been told the incident did not involve the pub and simply happened nearby.

One woman who lives directly opposite said: "I heard my daughter shouting out of the bedroom window.

All those involved left the scene before police and paramedics arrived (ASP)

"I went to check what was going on, a large group of people were beating one lad on the floor close to the pub doors.

"Then a white BMW tried running into the crowd.

"We phoned an ambulance for the lad on the floor.

"He didn't look like he was in a good way."

"Before the medics and police arrived everyone left the scene."

Tyre marks could be seen on a grass verge nearby following the incident.

Detectives attended the scene and began carrying out enquiries.

GMP say their enquiries into the incident are ongoing (ASP)

Officers were seen trying to acquire CCTV from nearby cameras including at the pub as well as speaking to witnesses.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "Just before 10.35pm on Friday 30 October 2020, officers were called to Old Market Street, Blackley to reports of a disturbance.

"Upon attending, all parties had left the scene. Enquiries have since established that there had been an altercation outside a property before a car was driven at a group of people.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
