MFRS confirmed to LancsLive crews were at the scene due to the village sitting close to Lancashire's border with Merseyside.

A spokesperson said: "Crews put out the car fire when they attended. They were called at 12.02pm and arrived at 12.08pm."

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service also attended but the fire had been extinguished.

People took to social media as the road was forced to close.

One person posted in a local Facebook group: "Car on fire Long Lane."

Another person commented on the post: "I just drove past as the fire engine was pulling away. Looks like a bad engine fire. Hope everyone is okay."

A comment was posted wishing the owner of the car well: "I hope they hadn't filled up with fuel. Seriously hope all involved ok x"

Lancashire Police confirmed that the fire is not believed to be suspicious.

A spokesperson said: "It was reported to us but there was no suggestion of anything suspicious."
