The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) has been instructed to study locations where people living in eastern Bangkok could park their cars and use shuttle buses to commute to inner areas as part of its efforts to ease traffic congestion in the capital.
Speaking yesterday, after chairing a meeting of a panel tasked to address traffic in the city, Police Strategy Office commissioner Kraiboon Suadsong said the BMTA had been asked to present its findings next week.
Pol Lt Gen Kraiboon said the panel had asked the National Institute for Development Administration (Nida) to conduct a public opinion survey about the shuttle bus idea.
The poll would gauge the opinions of about 500 people in 10 districts in eastern Bangkok.
He said the survey will have nine questions, including how often they used Ramkhamhaeng Road before certain lanes were closed for the construction of an electric train project and whether they have used the route following the lane closure.
Other questions include whether or not they want designated car parks to connect with shuttle buses and boat services.
Respondents must be those routinely travelling into town to study or work, Pol Lt Gen Kraiboon said, adding the survey is expected to be concluded in two weeks.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration representatives also informed the commission that the agency will expedite its efforts to improve the condition of a pier by Klong Saen Saep behind Paseo Town shopping mall on Ramkhamhaeng Road in Saphan Sung district.
