The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will name 35 alcohol-free locations to curb the number of accidents and deaths during the upcoming Songkran Festival.
Yesterday, Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt said that City Hall would endorse measures on drunk driving to prevent road accidents and clashes among drinkers.
Returning to large celebrations for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr Chadchart said the BMA and its network would work together to minimise accidents.
The BMA is also encouraging people to organise alcohol-free events as it has prepared 35 locations in 24 districts for these during the Songkran Festival, such as at Lan Khon Muang Square of City Hall and the walking street along the banks of Phadung Krung Kasem Canal, he added.
"We would like to ask everyone not to bring alcoholic drinks to the events as we want the Songkran celebrations at these locations to be safe for all family members," Chadchart said.
