A disabled group has lost a lawsuit in the Central Administrative Court in a case in which it demanded 1.4 billion baht from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) for failing to install adequate lifts for the disabled at skytrain stations.
The Central Administrative Court yesterday threw out the suit filed by the Transport For All (T4A) group, finding that the delayed installation of the lifts was not the BMA's fault, according to Sonthipong Mongkolsawat, a legal adviser to the group.
The court said yesterday that there were technical problems with removing infrastructure to make way for building the lifts, which is an issue beyond the BMA's power to resolve.
Lifts and assistance facilities for the disabled for all 23 stations were ordered to be completed within a year by the Supreme Administrative Court on Jan 21, 2015.
After this did not happen, the group submitted their 1.4-billion-baht lawsuit to the Administrative Court against the BMA for damages after the BMA's failure to honour the court-ordered installation of the lifts.
Mr Sonthipong said the T4A will appeal the ruling in the Supreme Administrative Court.
He added the group will also bring the issue of inadequate basic facilities for the disabled to the attention of various international human rights organisations.
