Murderer Wayne Davison is facing a life sentence after he pleaded guilty to killing a man in an attack during a row over a small amount of cash.

Now Davison, 37, of Briardale Road, Blyth, admitted murdering him.

Judge Paul Sloan QC, at Newcastle Crown Court, told him he will be sentenced on October 9.

Judge Sloan said: "You will appreciate there's only one sentence that can be imposed in respect of the offence of murder and that is a sentence of life imprisonment.

"It will be my duty to consider the minimum term you must serve before you can even be considered for release."

Mr Rutherford was assaulted at a property on Crofton Street, Blyth, on Wednesday, April 29.

Emergency services attended and the 34-year-old was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries the following day.

At the time of Mr Rutherford's death, Detective Chief Inspector Ed Small, the senior investigating officer on the case, said: “This is a tragic incident that has sadly resulted in Colin’s death. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this terrible time."
