Blundering armed cops swarm town over 'gun' - but it was teenage girls having water fight

Two teenage girls having a water fight were arrested following reports of a person carrying a weapon.

Police, including firearms officers, attended the scene and seized two water pistols.

The incident happened at 2.45pm on Sunday (April 23) on Week Street in Maidstone, Kent Live reports.

This comes after they received reports of a person who had been seen in possession of what appeared to resemble a handgun.

A similar description was received via town centre CCTV.

Officers arrived at around 3.30pm and arrested the two teenage girls.

Man flown to hospital after being hit by a car on A20 in Aylesford A police spokesperson said: "Upon inspection by attending officers, two items seized were confirmed as water pistols.

The teenage girls were released later that evening without charge."
