Bluestone says 'no funding solution' for £100m Anglesey holiday park

Holiday park firm Bluestone says there is currently “no funding solution” to develop a £100m holiday village on Anglesey.

The tourism firm, which has a large holiday village in Pembrokeshire, had struck a deal with Land & Lakes to develop Bluestone Holy Island Resort Ynys Mon on the Penrhos Estate near Holyhead.

The scheme on the coastal park has outline planning permission and was tipped to create 900 jobs.

UK Government’s Board of Trade was also promoting the investment in the UK and overseas.

But they have now announced that funding has not been secured and their plans are on hold.

A Bluestone spokesperson said: “Bluestone National Park Resort is a sustainable tourism business, with the environment at its heart.

“It has always been our intention to expand and develop other coastal resorts in the UK, especially in areas that would significantly benefit from economic, environmental and social regeneration.

“However, there is no funding solution currently in place for this site and proposals cannot commence without it. If this situation were to change in the future, then we look forward to actively engaging with local stakeholders.

“In the meantime, any queries should be directed to Land & Lakes as the landowners and the applicants of the planning consent.”

Land & Lakes said they did not want to comment further at this stage.

It had previously been their intention to submit detailed plans for Phase One of the development at Penrhos by the summer.

This could have seen a potential start date in spring 2022 and occupation in the summer of 2023.

Campaigners have remained vehemently opposed to the scheme over fears about the impact on the nature reserve and public access to the site, which had been owned by Anglesey Aluminium.
