ST. LOUIS _ The Blues' much-maligned special teams, both penalty kill and power play, came through on Wednesday night as the Blues beat the Flames, 5-2, at Scottrade Center.
The power play scored on two of its three opportunities, its first goals in two weeks, and the penalty kill successfully took care of two Calgary man advantages. The Blues got power-play goals from Jaden Schwartz (his seventh of the season) and Alex Pietrangelo (his fourth), along with Alexander Steen's first goal and a late goal from Paul Stastny, his fourth of the season, that took off a lot of the pressure in the final minutes. Steen had assists on three goals, and Joel Edmundson got his second goal of the season, scoring into an empty net with 43.9 seconds left. It was the first time in seven tries the Blues had beaten Calgary goalie Eddie Lack.
The Blues rearranged their lines for this game, with Steen and Stastny playing with Vladimir Sobotka.
The Blues are 7-2-1 on the season and 3-0 at home.
Matthew Tkachuk had assists on both of the Flames' goals, each scored by Mikael Backlund.
Pietrangelo's goal puts him tied for the lead among defensemen and in first in points with 12.
The Blues play at Carolina on Friday and are home to face Columbus on Saturday.
