OTTAWA, Ontario _ Remember when the Blues couldn't win on the road and it was because they couldn't keep the puck out of their own net?
Well, something has changed.
The Blues earned their second straight shutout on the road Tuesday night against the Ottawa Senators, 6-0, at the Canadian Tire Centre.
The Blues had won just five of their first 17 road games this season and allowed 3.76 goals per game. After Monday's victory, they have won five of their last seven, four of which have been shutouts, for a 1.57 gpg average.
One night after Carter Hutton posted his third shutout of the season in Philadelphia, the Blues turned to Jake Allen who made 30 saves for his second shutout of the year.
The Blues finished with 30 shots on goal, grabbing two goals from Vladimir Tarasenko and one apiece from Ivan Barbashev, Alexander Steen, Patrik Berglund and Magnus Paajarvi. The club is now 3-1 under Mike Yeo and has outscored opponents 13-1 in the three wins.
The Blues will carry a shutout streak of 120 minutes, 18 seconds into Thursday's game in Toronto, the third game of a five-game road trip.
Allen continued to show progress for the third straight game, dating back to a 5-1 win over Toronto in Yeo's first game after taking over for Ken Hitchcock.
Allen needed only to make five saves in the first period but turned in a dandy save on Ottawa's Kyle Turris to keep the game scoreless.
That helped get the Blues, who were playing their third game in four games against a Senators team that had been off for two days, into the second period.
The Blues opened the scoring early in the second period on Paajarvi's second goal of the season. In his first appearance since late October, he showed some speed on the outside, making a power move to the net and beating Senators goalie Craig Hammond for a 1-0 lead just 1:51 into the period.
The second goal of the period was the first of two in the game for Tarasenko. He took a heads-up pass from Paul Stastny and buried his 24th goal of the season for a 2-0 lead about seven minutes into the period.
Yeo put together the line of Tarasenko, Steen and Stastny against Philadelphia, and if he weren't committed to the line, he probably would've broken up the line in Ottawa.
The three were on the ice for the Blues' first goal in their 2-0 win over the Flyers, one that was credited to Stastny after a shot by Kevin Shattenkirk went in off the center's skate. But otherwise the line was kept quiet with only two shots on goal, and Tarasenko failed to register one for just the fourth time this season.
"Well, they got us a huge goal," Yeo said. "I think that there's certainly some room for growth there. We look at that line and we see three very talented players that should have the ability and the opportunity to create some offense. That's why I said right off the hop ... if we weren't committed to staying with it for at least a couple of games then we probably wouldn't switched it up today. But I liked the balance of our lineup (Monday) night."
But they were terrific Tuesday, accounting for three of the Blues' six goals.
Berglund put the Blues ahead 3-0 on a power-play goal early in the third period, a goal that stood up after a challenge by Ottawa for offsides.
Steen then netted his 13th of the season on a feed from Stastny, who had two assists Tuesday. Steen pumped in his own rebound for a 4-0 lead with 9:17 to play in regulation.
Tarasenko later turned in his second of the night and 25th of the season. It was another spectacular wrist shot after a dropback pass from Steen for a 5-0 advantage with 6:11 left.
And rookie Barbashev wrapped up the scoring with his first goal in the NHL.
