NASHVILLE, Tenn. _ The Blues dropped their sixth game in a row, which was also their second straight shutout, in a 4-0 defeat by Nashville on Sunday at Bridgestone Arena.
It's the longest losing streak for the Blues since they dropped the final six games of the 2013-14 season, and the first time they've been shutout in back-to-back games since Games 2 and 3 of the Western Conference finals against San Jose in 2016. The last time it happened in the regular season was the final two games of the 13-14 season.
The Blues fell behind less than five minutes into the game and once again lost when giving up the first goal. Since the Blues took a 3-0 lead into the third period in Nashville on Feb. 13, the Blues have been outscored 17-3.
The Blues now head to Minnesota for a game on Tuesday, but first they face the trade deadline on Monday, and who knows what the Blues will do there. In advance of that, the Blues put forward Chris Thorburn on waivers. Thorburn has been in and out on the fourth line, though when he's in, he's usually playing five or six minutes.
Nikita Soshnikov made his Blues debut and played 15:27, with two shots on goal and four hits.
The Blues went into the game not among the top eight teams in the Western Conference for the first time this season.
After the Blues gave up two goals in the first period, the Blues saw a goal from Scott Hartnell, that went in off his skate, and a short-handed goal by Austin Watson. Watson has only eight goals this season, but four have been against the Blues. On this one, Blues goalie Jake Allen chose not to come out to play a loose puck into his zone. Watson got to it and beat Allen one on one.
It's the seventh short-handed goal allowed by the Blues this season, tying them for eighth most in the league.
The Blues had two power plays in the period, but couldn't score on either.
