CALGARY, Alberta _ The Flames scored five times in the third period, the last into an empty net, as the Blues lost their second straight game, 7-4, at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Monday night.
The Blues tied the game at 4 with 7:17 to play, the second time in the period they had come back to even the score, but the Flames got the go-ahead goal 1:46 later and then added two late goals as the Blues pushed forward trying to tie. It was the most goals the Blues have allowed this season.
Vladimir Tarasenko had two goals, tying the game 12 seconds after the Flames had taken a 4-3 lead on a power-play goal after a penalty on a scrum behind the Calgary net that left Blues coach Mike Yeo livid.
Alexander Steen and Jaden Schwartz also scored for the Blues. It was the second goal of the season for Steen.
The Blues are off until Thursday when they play at Edmonton.
The Blues managed only four shots on goal in the second period against a new goalie, but even without many chances they kept even with the Flames as the score stayed at 2 after two periods.
Eddie Lack, Calgary's backup goalie, came on for starter Mike Smith at the start of the period _ Smith never appeared on the bench during the period _ but didn't have a whole lot to do. Blues goalie Jake Allen faced eight shots, including some heavy sustained pressure, and kept the game even.
The Blues took their fifth too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty, but they killed it. Dmitrij Jaskin spent much of the period in the locker room too after he blocked a shot with his hand. He was back on the bench at the end of the period.
