Blues blow another two-goal lead, fall in overtime to Jets, 5-4

WINNIPEG, Manitoba _ The Blues kept their three-game trip from being a total disaster, but they let a chance for even more get away when they failed to hold another two-goal lead and lost to Winnipeg 5-4 in overtime on Monday at Bell MTS Place.

The Blues managed three points in the three games that started with Colton Parayko's costly giveaway in Montreal that cost them at least one point. The Blues bounced back with a 4-1 win in Toronto and twice had two-goal leads against Winnipeg, one of the favorites in the Central Division and a team that beat the Blues 5-1 on opening night. But the Blues couldn't close out the win and had to settle for just one point.

The Blues let leads of 2-0 and 3-1 get away and gave up the tying goal with 1:40 to play in the third period after Winnipeg pulled its goalie for an extra attacker.

In overtime, Jacob Trouba scored the game-winner off a pass from Kyle Connor. The Blues have lost three times in overtime in their first eight games.

The Blues broke on top with a goal from Ryan O'Reilly 47 seconds into the game, as he backhanded in a pass from David Perron after a long pass from Vince Dunn. Shortly past the midway mark of the period, the Blues took the lead to 2-0 on a goal by Colton Parayko that went in off a Winnipeg player.

The two-goal lead lasted just 70 seconds before a power-play goal by Winnipeg's Mark Scheifele that caromed in off of the rear of Jay Bouwmeester's skate caromed past Jake Allen and into the goal.

That goal came on the first power play of the night for the Jets, and with Winnipeg's dangerous power play, the Blues needed to limit those chances, something they didn't do. Winnipeg had three more power plays in the first two periods, but the Blues killed them all off.

The Blues, however, did score on a power play, with Dunn getting his third goal of the season with 10:30 to go in the second on a rebound that made it 3-1.

It looked like the Blues would have a five-minute power play late in the third when Brandon Tanev was called for boarding O'Reilly, but 15 seconds into the penalty, Dunn was called for hooking, which wiped out two minutes of it. The Blues eventually went back on the power play but didn't produce anything.

Winnipeg cut the lead to 3-2 a minute into the third period on a shot from the point by Ben Chiarot and Scheifele tied the game with 3:57 gone in the period, after which Mike Yeo called time out.

Seventy-five seconds later, Perron scored after a steal from O'Reilly to put the Blues back in the lead. It was the fifth goal in the past six games for Perron, who leads the team in goals.

Winnipeg pulled its goalie with 2:10 to play and 30 seconds later got a rebound goal by Bryan Little that tied the game.
