ST. LOUIS _ On their third try, the Blues got their first win, with David Perron recording a hat trick in the first two periods in a 5-3 win over Calgary at Enterprise Center.
It was Perron's fourth career hat trick and his third with the Blues, the first since Oct. 22, 2016, also against Calgary. Two of the goals, his second and his third, came on the power play.
Brayden Schenn had three assists for the Blues, with one on all three of Perron's goals.
The other goals for the Blues came from Alexander Steen, who got the Blues even just 12 seconds after Calgary had taken a 1-0 lead, and Joel Edmundson, who finished an end-to-end rush by Robert Thomas with a goal in his first game of the season after missing the first two with a groin injury.
There were other notable events along the way, including Calgary failing to score on a penalty shot in the first period and also failing to take advantage of a two-man advantage for 1:35 in the second period after first a hook was called on Jakub Jerabek and then a slash on Brayden Schenn. Calgary put a shot off the post during the two-man advantage, and when the first penalty ended, Jerabek ended up with a breakaway after the Blues got the puck out to center ice when he came out of the box, but Calgary goalie Mike Smith made the save.
The Blues took a 5-1 lead into the third and typically made it closer as Calgary had cut the lead to 5-3 with 8:56 to go in the period. The Blues took a time out to get re-settled, and while Calgary had a few chances after that, the Blues stepped up their game as well and took some of the pressure off of Jake Allen by keeping the puck in the Calgary end for long stretches.
