ST. LOUIS _ The Blues moved into second place in the Central Division with a 3-2 shootout win over Colorado on Monday night at Enterprise Center.
Ryan O'Reilly had the only goal in the shootout and Jordan Binnington had saved all three Colorado attempts.
Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko scored for the Blues, who dominated large stretches of the game but had trouble putting the puck in the net. Binnington's night started slow but he was called on often in the second and third periods and also saw a couple Colorado shots hit the post.
Colorado pulled goalie Philipp Grubauer with just over 2 minutes to go and got the tying goal on a deflection by Alexander Kerfoot with 46.4 seconds to play.
The Blues are even with idle Nashville with 94 points with three games to play for each team. The Blues have the tiebreaker of regulation and overtime wins with 42.
Tarasenko scored 14 seconds into the third period to give the Blues a 2-0 lead. Off the opening faceoff for the period, Ryan O'Reilly took a shot that was blocked by Philipp Grubauer, but he got the rebound and fed Tarasenko for the goal, his 31st of the season.
The Blues needed the breathing room because Colorado scored with 13:30 to go in the period when Gabriel Landeskog redirected in a shot from the blueline by Patrik Nemeth. It was the 34th goal of the season for Landeskog.
Schwartz finished off a pass from Oskar Sundqvist from in front of the goal with 12:53 to go in the first period to put the Blues ahead. It was the 11th goal of the season for Schwartz.
Colorado came into the game one point ahead of Arizona in the fight for the final Western Conference playoff spot.
