T3's Blueair Signature Air Purifier review in a sentence: Stylish design works brilliantly, especially in larger rooms.
I recently got to see the growing range of Blueair indoor air treatment products, one of which was this, the new Blueair Signature Air Purifier. Not only did it look really good, the appliance appeared to be getting great results in the room where the products were being showcased. Since then, I’ve been itching to get one installed at home, where it’s much easier to see the results in a more familiar environment.
I’m already a big fan of the Blueair brand, having reviewed several of their products over the last few years. These have included the mighty Blueair HealthProtect 7470i model, which was great but rather bulky. I later tried the compact Blue Air Blue Max 3250i and that too was impressive. More recently, I’ve enjoyed the powerful Blueair ComfortPure 3-in-1 Air Purifier, which not only cleaned the air but warmed and cooled it too.
Unsurprisingly, many Blueair products secure a spot in our best air purifier guide, so I’ve been keen to try the Blueair Signature Air Purifier in more familiar surroundings to see if it’s another prime candidate. I’ve been using the Blue model variant of the Signature, but it can also be purchased in a lighter shade too.
Blueair Signature Air Purifier: price and availability
The Blueair Signature Air Purifier is available in the UK now for £369 from the Blueair website, which also has a new and much easier way to buy replacement filters as and when they are required over time.
US readers can get it directly from Blueair, or Amazon, which has it listed for $449. The Amazon Blueair store has a range of options on the model front, that may suit your room requirements a little more accurately.
Blueair Signature Air Purifier: design and features
The Blueair Signature Air Purifier is just that, an appliance designed at improving the quality of air around your home, with a design and specification that lends itself particularly well to larger rooms. Blueair has a reputation of designing products that look great around the house, and this is definitely the case for the Blueair Signature Air Purifier. My test sample came with a distinctive Blue Signature casing.
However, anyone prefer a lighter shade will warm to the ivory-coloured unit, while grey and black models are also offered. There’s something to suit any home, basically. Blueair has constructed the Signature Air Purifier with a range of materials, including the outer material cover, that both look and feel much nicer than some plain white box models that fall into the air purifier category.
Adding appeal with this appliance is its performance prowess, with seven stages of filtration offering up to ten times more odour removal than rivals. According to their own figures, the Blueair HEPASilent filtration technology can also capture 99.97%² of airborne pollutants, right on down to just 0.1 microns. The Blueair Signature Air Purifier will need occasional filter replacements to work optimally, but otherwise, this is a low maintenance machine with the added benefit of offering extra controls via a Blueair smartphone app for both iOS and Android.
Blueair Signature Air Purifier: performance
One of the things I find most appealing with the Blueair Signature Air Purifier is the way it looks. It’s very aesthetically pleasing, which is important if I’ve got it dotted around my house. Much more so than having a plain white box. Blueair experts also recently told me just how popular the optional wooden legs were proving for this model, which not only raise it off the ground but let it take on the appearance of a small table. It’s a great idea.
However, the Blueair Signature Air Purifier backs up those delicious looks with a very decent specification. Blueair’s own stats for the unit are 65 m² in 12.5 minutes and up to 314 m² in 1 hour when it comes to air purification, which sounds impressive enough and, having lived with their products before, I’d like to think are accurate too.
Add on the Wi-Fi connectivity, which allows for remote control of the appliance, an on/off timer so it can suit your needs along with four speed controls plus Auto and Night modes and this is a solid package.
I found the Blueair Signature Air Purifier very easy to get up and running. It’s an out-of-the-box solution, so there’s very little effort involved in getting the appliance going. I plugged in into a power outlet, downloaded the Blueair app and then got the Wi-Fi set up quickly enough. There’s some cool stuff going on here too, with one of the best bits being the motion sensing display, which illuminates on the top of the unit when your hand gets near it. Very neat. It then fades away once you’ve made any adjustments to the settings, such as changing the fan speed for example.
That display on the top of the unit is where everything can be fine-tuned to suit both your requirements and the room itself. I found the controls a doddle, with clear icons making it idiot proof. There’s a Display Lock button, a Fan Speed control, On/Standby button, plus Auto Night mode topped with the digital display that shows those all-important air cleaning stats. What’s more, there’s a ‘filter expired’ icon that illuminates automatically if the appliance detects your existing one is past its best.
I couldn’t really fault the Blueair Signature Air Purifier during daily use. It’s super quiet and very unobtrusive. Sure, this is a unit designed for larger rooms, so it might seem a little too big for, say, a bedsit. However, the way it works without fuss or bother added to the fact that it can double as a small table, makes it useful for any kind of room space, I think. I liked the way the lighting on the unit changes when it detects nasty, or even slight odours, which is something that was impressive on the other Blueair units I’ve tested previously.
Blueair Signature Air Purifier: verdict
The Blueair Signature Air Purifier is another very solid offering from this respected brand. There’s clearly been a lot of thought put into the design, features and functionality, which makes it a step up from those boring beige or white boxes that are out there. This might cost a little more than some cheap rivals, but I think the quality and performance justify any additional cost.
I thought the supporting Blueair app was impressive too, and this is handy if you’re too lazy to get off the sofa or prefer hands-off control of your appliances. That said, the Blueair Signature Air Purifier was so easy to use, I didn’t have any problem tapping it as I went past if anything needed altering.
Blueair Signature Air Purifier: alternatives to consider
Personally, I'm a big fan of the the Blueair brand, which is arguably one of the most active of the air purifier brands, so the Blueair Blue Max 3250i is another good bet. That too is suited to bigger rooms. However, the even larger capability Blueair HealthProtect 7470i, which I’ve owned for a few years is super powerful and very efficient. It's heavy and takes up a lot of space, mind.
While Blueair is always a good route to take, there are plenty of other options too. Have a look at the Dyson Purifier Humidify+Cool Formaldehyde, for example. Meanwhile, if it’s a solid brand name and compact dimensions you’re after, the AEG AX3 as seen in our guide is another model well worth considering.
