Blue ribbons on Premier League trophy explained as Liverpool prepare to lift title

Liverpool face Chelsea this evening in the Premier League as they continue their title celebrations after a magnificent season.

The Reds secured the league title for the first time in 30 years last month after a fantastic run in the league and tonight is the big trophy lift.

But Liverpool fans were quick to notice something peculiar about the trophy ribbons prior to the club's final match at Anfield this season.

Liverpool supporters were all saying the same thing after Sky Sports showed the fact that Man City ribbons are still on the trophy after they won the league crown last term.

One fan tweeted: "When are they changing the ribbons to red?" Another added: "The ribbons are still blue lol."

Whilst frustrating for Liverpool fans to see rivals City still on the trophy, it's all part of the trophy celebration plans.

As Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates explained during pre-match coverage, Liverpool's colours will be on the trophy shortly after the end of the Chelsea game and ahead of the trophy lift from 10:30pm onwards.

Cates explained on Sky Sports: "At about 10:30 tonight, Liverpool will receive the Premier League trophy. The ribbons, of course, will change colour just before then."
