Blue Point can complete quick Royal Ascot double in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes

Blue Point can complete a historic Royal Ascot Group One double by landing the Diamond Jubilee Stakes today.

Charlie Appleby's star sprinter claimed the King's Stand here on Tuesday taking his record at Ascot to four wins from five starts.

Two of those victories came over six furlongs so going back up in trip is of no concern if his win during the week hasn't left its mark.

Lope Y Fernandez was impressive under Donnacha O'Brien on his debut at the Curragh earlier this month and any amount of improvement is possible from him in the opener today - the Chesham Stakes.

Ryan Moore takes the ride and he should go very close at a short price.

In the Jersey Stakes, I fancy Happy Power to be there or thereabouts under Silvestre De Sousa.

He has won on ground ranging from good to soft and comes back down in trip after beating older opposition in a race at York last week.

He looks a good each-way price to go close again.

Masar hasn't been seen in action since winning last year's Derby, but impressed in a recent racecourse gallop at Newmarket.

If coming back near his best, he should be very hard to beat over the Derby trip in the Hardwicke Stakes.

He might need to be back near his best though as today's opposition won't be easy.

Masar wins the Derby (PA)

Defoe came home ahead of Kew Gardens in the Coronation Cup at Epsom earlier in the month and another big run can be expected.

Meanwhile, Southern France finished second to the all conquering Stradivarius when last seen at York and John Gosden's staying king done the form no damage when winning the Gold Cup here on Thursday.

But if Masar is on form, he should take all the beating.

The Wokingham Stakes looks a lottery but something has to win it and Southern Horse is a fascinating contender for Jim Bolger.

He won three times on dirt over this distance in Argentina and was second in a Group 1 in his only start on turf.

Another Irish raider who could be involved is Aidan O'Brien's Gossamer Wings, who was second over five furlongs in the Queen Mary here last year. He is currently a reserve.

And in the final race of the meeting, Max Dynamite could go close for Willie Mullins if running to the form of his second in last year's Doncaster Cup.

Bet of the weekend - Masar - 4.20 Ascot Saturday 11/4

Last year's Derby winner will take all the beating if returning in top form after being off the track for over a year with an injury.
