Blue Jays owned fan on Twitter who questioned their injury update

The Toronto Blue Jays are among the many professional sports teams that regularly engage with with their fans on Twitter. But what started as a seemingly innocuous and valid question quickly escalated into a phenomenal Twitter own.

The Blue Jays posted a change to their starting line up Thursday for the first matchup of their four-game road series against the Cleveland Indians. First baseman Justin Smoak was noticeably absent, with second baseman Lourdes Gurriel Jr. moving to first and Alen Hanson replacing him at second.

Well, one fan wanted to know exactly what was going on. So he asked the Blue Jays if they traded Smoak. And when they said they hadn’t but he was simply dealing with some neck tightness, this guy demanded to know their source.

That’s when the team’s Twitter account hilariously owned him.

“Literally us, the Blue Jays.” Spectacular response and a lesson surely learned here: Teams probably know what they’re talking about when it comes to their own personnel. And that blue check mark means something.
