Blue Jays lead White Sox 5-1

April 26--Miguel Gonzalez's White Sox debut got off to a rocky start Monday night at the Rogers Centre, and the Sox fell into a 5-1 hole after three innings.

With one out in the first, Josh Donaldson hit a double off the top of the right-field wall, and Jose Bautista walked. Edwin Encarnacion then hit a two-run double to center field to put the Blue Jays ahead.

Encarnacion added an RBI single in the third inning before Michael Saunders' two-run homer to left-center field pushed the Blue Jays ahead 5-1.

Adam Eaton had singled, advanced to third on Jimmy Rollins' single and scored on Jose Abreu's groundout to give the Sox a run in the first off Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman.

Gonzalez was called up from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday afternoon after going 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA over two minor-league starts this year.

He pitched for four seasons with the Orioles, and went 7-3 with a 2.61 ERA over 13 appearances against the Blue Jays in American League East play.

"He's seen these guys enough," Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "They've seen him too, but him pitching up here is not anything that is going to affect him like being up for the first time. I'm sure he's excited to be here and show what he can do."

Sox catcher Kevan Smith, who was called up from Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday to replace injured Alex Avila, was originally slated to make his major-league debut Monday. But he was scratched about an hour before the game with back spasm.

Dioner Navarro, who played for the Blue Jays in the previous two seasons, started in his place.
