After sweating out weeks of rumors concerning Shohei Ohtani, Blue Jays fans and supporters were in for a rude awakening Saturday after learning of the prized superstar free agent’s long-awaited decision.
Ohtani, an Angel for six seasons, announced on Instagram his agreement to join the Dodgers on a massive 10-year, $700 million deal. The stunning news sent shockwaves around the entire sports world, but it’s likely no one took the announcement as hard as the Blue Jays fanbase, especially after Friday’s reporting fiasco.
In what will now become a day of infamy for Canadian baseball, Blue Jays faithful entered the weekend hoping conflicting reports closely linking Ohtani to Toronto were true. Instead of celebrating for the rest of the offseason, however, the biggest news will now be the harsh reality of losing out on the Ohtani sweepstakes.
Whether it’s a case of unfortunate luck or the Drake curse, it’s clear, based on the reactions, that it may take quite a while for the Blue Jays to recover from the news of Ohtani to the Dodgers:
