Blue Jays’ Ernie Clement’s Post World Series Comments Pulled at the Heart Strings

The Blue Jays suffered a heartbreaking loss in Game 7 of the World Series to the Dodgers in the 11th inning on Saturday night, and many of Toronto’s players were understandably emotional after the loss. They came so close to capturing the franchise’s third World Series title, and the first since 1993, but they fell short in the end.

Toronto third baseman Ernie Clement was especially emotional after the loss. He talked to reporters with tears in his eyes, but chose to be grateful for what this season brought the team and all the experiences he had with his teammates.

“I’ve been crying, for like probably for an hour. I thought I was done with the tears, but I just love these guys so much,” Clement said. “I was having so much fun coming to work every day and battling with these guys. We have so much to be proud of, even though it didn’t go our way. All I care about is hanging with these guys for another couple hours.”

Well, that definitely pulled at some heart strings.

Clement’s teammate Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went viral for the sad photos of him being the last player in the Blue Jays’ dugout after the loss. He apologized to the fans in his post-game interview. This loss is definitely a difficult one for the team.

Clement helped his team throughout the entirety of their postseason run. He averaged .411/.416/.562 and posted 30 hits (a team postseason high), 13 runs, nine RBIs and one home run through 73 at-bats.
