OTSU -- A trip to the top of Mt. Hiei could offer the rewarding experience of seeing a rare black and blue bee. Said to bring happiness, this bee, called rurimon-hanabachi and nicknamed "blue bee," can be seen flying around Garden Museum Hiei in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto, through early this month.
Since last year, the about 1.5-centimeter-long bee has been spotted in gardens planted with miso-hagi and scarlet sage in the open-air art museum.
"We hope people will feel happiness looking at the rare bee, at a time when the coronavirus has brought misfortune to our lives," said facility manager Norihito Fujii.
An admission fee is required to enter Garden Musuem Hiei, which is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily, though it will be temporarily closed from Sept. 8 to 11 due to construction.
