Blow to Ayrshire retail as another shop announces its closure

There’s been a blow to retail in Ayr with the announcement of the closure of a small business near Newmarket Street.

Owners at Pine Marten Plants, in the Queen’s Court Centre, will close their doors for the final time tomorrow (Saturday, January 15).

The fledgling business had only been in operation for around eight months.

But in a social media post, the owners said: “Sadly, as of Saturday, January 15, we will be closing down our Ayr Store.

“We aren’t sad to let it go, it’s just not the right time for Ayr and we accept this.”

It’s understood that the current trading conditions have prompted the closure and the tipping point came when other small businesses in Newmarket Street started to close their doors.

The business is currently offering a 50 per cent discount on a range of plants and products.

A spokesperson said: “We are doing a 50 per cent closing down sale and will remain online at pinemartenplants.com where we ship out plants every day all over the country.

“We will also be available at our Largs store for in-store shopping.

“Thank you everyone who did continually support us and told all their plant friends.”
