Blooming peach flowers have painted the surroundings of a roadside rest area in Tenryu Ward, Hamamatsu, a lucious pink -- a harbinger of the coming of spring.
A total of 500 peach trees have been planted around the Hanamomo no Sato michi-no-eki rest area and on a hill a few minutes walk away.
According to a Hanamomo no Sato official, the flowers came into bloom about a week earlier this year than usual. The flowers are expected to remain in bloom until around the middle of March.
"I did not intend to look at the flowers, but they were so beautiful that before I knew it, I was walking around," a 58-year-old visitor from Gifu Prefecture said. "It's really nice scenery."
