Bloodbath horror as slashed mum found dead on Shetland street

Police have launched a murder probe after a mum of two died in a horrific knife attack.

The body of Tracy Walker, 40, was found lying in the street outside a property in Lerwick, Shetland, in the early hours of yesterday morning.

It is understood her throat had been slashed.

Tributes were last night paid to the mum of two who was described as “the best human being you could meet”.

Police Scotland had to fly detectives from their major crime investigation team over from the mainland following the “gruesome” slaying.

Tracy, 40, was found at 2.05am on the north side of Lerwick near the ferry terminal.

It’s believed she was found outside a property in Ladies Drive near to where she lived.

Police said they were called to the area after concerns were raised for a woman found there.

Officers were guarding the entrance to a property and an area of ground close to the building had been taped off.

Last night her brother Dell Smith, 43, said: “She was the best human being you could meet. All the clichés – good, warm-hearted.”

Sources told the Record it was understood Tracy’s throat had been slit by a knife.

One said: “Officers were faced with a pretty gruesome scene. This was a young mum whose life has been tragically ended in what looks like a horrific knife attack.”

Tracy was from an island family and had studied psychology, English, maths and care at Shetland College. She had also worked as a social care worker with Shetland Islands Council.

Locals and others took to social media to express their shock. Susan Clelland said: “Such a shame for this poor lady.”

Jaclyn Ann Thomson posted: “Thoughts are with the family.”

Last night police said a man aged 31 and a woman aged 27 were arrested in connection with Tracy’s death.
