Blood Wedding at the Young Vic: First look at production pictures of Lorca's tragedy

The first pictures of the Young Vic’s production of Blood Wedding have been released.

Marina Carr’s adaptation of Federico García Lorca’s 1932 tragedy will open at the theatre tomorrow, directed by Yaël Farber.

It tells the story of a bride, who absconds on her wedding day with her true love, a man who killed the groom’s father. A blood vow is broken and the vengeance of a village is unleashed, as passion and tradition come to a head.

Aoife Duffin stars as the bride, with Bríd Brennan, Scarlett Brookes, Gavin Drea, Annie Firbank, Olwen Fouéré, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva, Faaiz Mbelizi, Steffan Rhodri, Thalissa Teixeira and David Walmsley completing the cast.

There will be designs by Susan Hilferty, lighting by Natasha Chivers, sound by Emma Laxton, composition by Isobel Waller-Bridge, movement by Imogen Knight and fight direction by Kate Waters.

The Young Vic has a history of producing Lorca’s plays, having staged an updated Yerma starring Billie Piper in 2016. Together with Blood Wedding, the two plays were intended to be Lorca’s Spanish trilogy, but he was executed during the Spanish Civil War before he was able to fulfill this.

Blood Wedding runs until November 12 at the Young Vic, youngvic.org
