Blood-stained clothes and trainers lie in street of Glasgow shooting as victim fights for life

Blood-stained clothes and a pair of trainers were left lying in the street at the scene of a shooting in Glasgow.

Emergency services raced to Westray Street in Milton last night after reports that a man had been shot.

The victim, named locally as John McGregor, 44 , was rushed to hospital, where he is fighting for his life.

It is understood mercy crews worked on the victim in the street before he was taken away.

Shocking video footage later emerged of a gunman casually running back to a getaway car after the horror shooting.

Witnesses saw the suspect jog back to a white hatchback with what looked like a rifle in his left hand.

Forensic officers remained at the scene on Friday, as uniformed police stand guard at the estate.

Both ends of the street have been taped off as enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.

One terrified neighbour told how she was out at her car in the street when the gun shots rang out.

“I was going to my car to get my bags and I heard a loud bang.

“I ran back into my house. It was so loud - it was the loudest noise ever.

“My family were at the window and waving for me to get inside. I was in shock. I didn’t realize it was a gun shot until my family told me.

“After that we heard the helicopter out then the ambulance and police sirens.”

It is understood local children were also put playing in the area when the shooter launched his attack.

One woman said: “My wain was out playing up there and luckily she came back in just before it happened.

“Thankfully she wasn’t there when it was happening.”

Police have said enquiries are at an "early stage".

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Grainger, said: “Around 7.55pm on Thursday, 26 August, 2021 police received a report of a man being found seriously injured on Westray Street Glasgow.

“Emergency services attended the scene and a 44-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with life threatening injuries.

“Enquiries, which are currently at an early stage, are ongoing and a police presence will remain in the area.”
