Blood spatters on road but no victim found after scene cordoned off

Blood spatters lead police to block off a road and carry out extensive enquiries into where it came from.

Police received reports of blood on Avondale Road in Southport at around 11.30am.

A cordon was erected on a portion of the road between Saunders Street and Leicester Street shortly after, which was in place for around four hours.

Yesterday, November 22, Merseyside Police confirmed the road was closed and cited "suspicious circumstances".

Today the force confirmed what was on the road was blood, but the circumstances surrounding how it got there are still unknown.

In a statement released last night, a Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "At around 11.30am today, Monday 22 November, we received a report of suspicious circumstances in Southport.

"It was reported that blood had been found outside an address on Avondale Road.

"Forensic, CCTV and house-to-house enquiries are being carried out by police to establish the full circumstances.

"Enquiries have been carried out at local hospitals and no injuries have been reported."

A spokesperson for police said: "It was blood – but there were no reports of anyone injured or assaulted at the location despite extensive enquiries in the local area."

Anyone in the Avondale Road area with any information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or message Merseyside Police Contact Centre on Facebook, quoting log 281 of 22/11.

You can also pass information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or contact them via their online form at: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/give-information.
