Blood spattered on flats entrance after street stabbing shock

Residents woke to a crime scene on their street after a man was stabbed in a late-night attack.

People in Euston Street, Walton were shocked today after discovering a man had been hurt by two attackers armed with a baseball bat and knife.

The man was walking with two friends down the street just before midnight on Thursday when he was set upon.

Today residents said they had seen the crime scene develop after initially hearing the emergency services response.

A woman, who asked not to be named, said: “It must have been over quick, we didn’t hear anything and then there were blue lights flashing.”

“The police came round and searched the gardens, I didn’t know what was going on.”

Other neighbours were surprised to learn what had happened, with one saying: “They took the lad away in the ambulance, but he was handcuffed and had his hood up, we thought he was the one kicking off."

Chillingly, blood spatter could be seen on the entrance to a block of flats on the street.

One man who lives in the building said: "I live right in the middle of these flats and I didn’t hear a thing all night.

"I even left for the gym this morning, there was no sign of anything kicking off.”

Although police were at the scene this morning, by lunchtime there was no visible police presence.

One resident said: “We had to read about it in the ECHO to find anything out about it.”

Chief Inspector George Phillips said: ”We understand the concern and harm that knife crime causes across Merseyside and with your information, we will continue to make arrests, recover weapons and remove these dangers from the streets."

The two men are still wanted for the assault having fled the scene in the direction of Bedford Road.
