LUCKNOW: A Rajasthan-based doctor along with a blood bank technician are under the STF scanner along with eight other blood banks in UP where blood smuggled from Rajasthan was sold. The STF, which recently busted a gang selling smuggled blood, made the revelation based on the interrogation of the arrested mastermind, Naushad.
Deputy SP, STF, Pramesh Shukla, who is heading the probe, said that on the basis of interrogation and documents recovered from possession of Naushad, it has come to the fore that a Jaipur doctor, named Rahul Handa, who worked in a blood bank, and Deepanshu Kumawat, a lab technician, for stealing blood bags collected by charitable trusts and then smuggling them to UP through Naushad.
"The accused also used to get a thick commission as per the deal. We are looking for the two," he said
The STF sources also said that as many as eight other blood banks in Lucknow and adjoining districts have also come under the scanner for buying the smuggled blood.
To recall, on June 30, STF had busted a gang of seven members who used to smuggle human blood units donated to a charitable institution in Rajasthan and sell them through blood banks in Lucknow and other parts of UP. A total of 302 units of blood kept in ice bags were also recovered from their possession.
Those arrested were identified as Naushad (kingpin) of Kushinagar district, Asad of Chowk in Lucknow, Rohit of Unnao (an employee of a private hospital), Karan Mishra of Madiaon in Lucknow (a technician of a private hospital), Mohammad Ammar of Bazaarkhala (owner of the private hospital Midlife Blood Bank and Hospital), Sandeep Kumar of Gudamba (employee of a blood bank) and Ajeet Dubey of Krishna Nagar (owner of Narayni blood bank).
They were arrested from Midlife Blood Bank and Hospital.
