The editor of the New Straits Times in Malaysia is to step down amidst allegations that he plagiarised the work of an US journalist. Bloggers pointed out that Monday's column by the editor, Brendan Pereira, looked remarkably similar to a column written by Mitch Albom of the Detroit Free Press. Yesterday it was announced that Pereira would be leaving the paper at the end of the year. It is a classic example of the way in which new media is acting as a watchdog on the old. And it bites!
