According to Technorati, there are 31 million blogs. According to a Gallup poll, 66% of internet users never read blogs. And now, according to a feature in Newsday: "Every so-called professional blogger I know wants to work for print."
Melissa Lafsky, a lawyer whose blog at Opinionistas.com led to her finding a book agent and starting a novel based on her blog. "There's still that desire for legitimacy. I'll admit it: I'll feel like a real writer when I have something published in print. 'Til then, I feel I'm faking it. Most bloggers I've talked to feel the same way."
Meanwhile, Stephen Baker, in his BusinessWeek Online blog, asks whether Big Media employees should be paid extra for blogging? Then admits that he would do it for free.
And, arguably the king of the bloggers, Jeff Jarvis, agrees with him: "That doesn't make Guilds and agents happy, but it is a reality of this new world: We do it for the sake of it."
