'Blockheads, idiots and boofheads': Speaker launches verbal attack on NSW MPs

NSW Speaker Shelley Hancock has been accused of bias after ejecting 263 Labor MPs since 2015.

The Speaker of the New South Wales Parliament has been accused of "bias" and "irresponsible" behaviour after labelling several Labor MPs as "blockheads", "idiots" and "boofheads" during a rowdy Question Time.

The Lower House descended into chaos on the final sitting day before the mid-winter break as the Coalition and Labor squabbled over Opposition Leader Luke Foley's budget reply speech.

"You can all cluster out there and have a little bitch session", Speaker Shelley Hancock said after ejecting several Labor MPs from the bearpit.

Deputy Opposition Leader Michael Daley hit back at Ms Hancock's language, claiming she is "not fit for office".

"The role of the Speaker is to maintain order in the house and uphold the civility of parliament, but the rank hypocrisy is that she is the number one offender," he said.

Mr Daley said Speaker Hancock had ejected 263 Labor MPs from the chamber during question time since 2015, compared to no Liberal or National MPs.

"She's been biased on each and every day she has sat in the job and today she took it to new heights," he said.

"She runs a protection racket for a premier and ministers who refuse to answer questions."

Mr Daley said Ms Hancock should improve herself when she comes back from the five-week break or "stay away".

A spokeswomen for Ms Hancock declined to comment.
