'Blind vagina' is a real thing - and it can majorly affect a woman's sex life

When it comes to the female genitals, it seems there is still a lot that we just don't know.

Recently we discovered that 'depressed vagina' is a real thing and this week we've learnt that some women have what is known as a 'blind vagina'.

No, this doesn't mean that your vagina has issues with sight, but instead that the vaginal canal is short because there is a 'wall' of tissue blocking the vagina.

It's a condition that some women are born with and occurs when the reproductive system doesn't develop properly in the womb.

The rare condition, also known as 'dead-end vagina', came to light following a piece of research published in the British Medical Journal .

The research revolved around an unnamed 20-year-old woman from Pakistan, who was married but was struggling to have penetrative sex with her husband.

In order to discover what was wrong, she visited a doctor where she discovered that her vagina was just 2cm long and she was diagnosed with 'blind vagina'.

Following this diagnosis, the woman underwent surgery to help reconnect the two parts of her vagina, which was achieved by cutting down the 'wall' of tissue.

After the procedure the woman had a mould wrapped in a condom inserted into her vagina to ensure it did not narrow as it healed.

A week later this was replaced by a silicone mould, which was removed entirely after three weeks.

The young woman was told she could start having sex four months after surgery, which she did without any discomfort.

Seven months after the operation the woman discovered she was pregnant and delivered a baby boy via C-Section.

So while, the condition can majorly impact a woman's bedroom antics prior to surgery, it appears women diagnosed with 'blind vagina' can go on to enjoy healthy sex lives and conceive.
