Blind dog tied to post and abandoned in Co Derry forest

A blind dog has been rescued after being discovered tied up and abandoned in a forest.

The black and white Border Collie had no identification.

He was alone and attached to a post with a makeshift collar and lead made from blue rope when he was discovered.

It is unclear how the dog got there and who left him, or whether he was found wandering and tied up by a member of the public.

A source familiar with the situation said it seemed likely the animal had been deliberately abandoned.

They added: "There could be an innocent explanation for this but it seems likely this lovely dog was taken to the area and abandoned there.

"If he hadn't been found the outcome could have been very poor for this older dog who appears to be in fragile health."

News of the apparent abandonment in Iniscarn Forest near Desertmartin village in Co Derry, attracted anger from Northern Ireland's dog loving community across social media, with many people coming forward to offer fostering and adoption.

He is being looked after at Drumbonaway Kennels, Dungannon, Co Tyrone.
