Blind dog receiving 'little interest' in adoption wins over Scots pet lovers

An appeal by the Scottish SPCA on Facebook for a new home for Miss Piggy, a blind Patterdale terrier-cross, has tugged at the hearts of Scots dog lovers.

Miss Piggy is blind but a "very confident" wee dog as she sadly had to have both eyes removed when she arrived at the animal welfare charity.

Their Angus centre has been looking for a home for her, but sadly, has had "very little interest".

Thousands of well-wishers shared the post in the hopes that the seven-year-old dog finds a perfect home soon.

The Facebook post published yesterday has so far garnered 2,900 likes, 2,007 shares and 360 comments.

One commenter shared that she'd already applied to rehome Miss Piggy.

SPCA's Facebook post reads: "Our Angus centre have been searching for an extra special home for Miss Piggy, but sadly she has had very little interest.

"She is a lovely, affectionate Patterdale terrier-cross who loves nothing more than getting lots of cuddles and affection!

"Although she is completely blind, she doesn’t let it hold her back and is an extremely confident little dog. She can however be a bit wary of other dogs coming up to her on walks.

"For this reason, she is looking for a home with no other pets and no young children so that she can get all the attention she deserves!

"Miss Piggy would make a very loving companion, and we would love to find her the perfect home."

One commenter shared: "Bless her, we lost our blind dog over a year ago, they make fantastic pets you just need to adjust things to help suit their needs."

Another said: "I had a blind dog and you wouldn't [have] known.

"Textured mats at various spots around the house (top and bottom of stairs, doorways, etc), jangle of keys when out walking her at the beach so she knew where you were.

"There's a blind dog rescue in the US that has the motto - blind dogs see with their heart. So true!!"
