Blind Date didn't worry about homosexuality ban - because date was so 'boring'

A Bristol beautician who was one of the first bisexual contestants on TV show Blind Date has said he didn't care that he was sent to a country where homosexual sex acts were illegal - because his date "bored him to death".

Jordan Shannon, aged 21, was paired up with Jesse Drew on the revamped dating show and the pair were whisked away for a luxury break in the beautiful St Lucia in the Caribbean.

But the choice of destination sparked outrage after it emerged gay sex was outlawed on the island and punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

While being shocked at the discovery Jordan said he soon realised it would not be a concern as there was no 'spark' with his match.

Jordan added: “When we landed in Saint Lucia we got told that it was illegal to be homosexual.

"Stuff like that doesn't really bother me because I'm not that flamboyant.

“Regardless, locals were still very helpful and looked after us while we were on our dates.”

Jordan went on to say: "Me and Jesse just didn’t click. There was no spark. No chemistry. He was so boring.

"When we’d finished filming I said: 'Shall we go have a few drinks at the bar?' But he said he wanted to chill and FaceTime his friends.

"He bored me to death. I’m such an outgoing person and he wasn’t."

Jordan also revealed the pair were given separate rooms during the stay and added that the experience was 'enjoyable' but "with the wrong person."

He also said that some reports of their experience on the island has been exaggerated.

“The production team for Blind Date were always helpful and gave us reassurance,” he added.

According to the Radio Times, Paul O’Grady, 63, said: “I’m delighted that Blind Date is continuing to be inclusive by giving a platform to those who identify as bisexual.”

Viewers will witness the aftermath of Jordan and Jesse's date Saint Lucia on Channel 5 on Sunday, May 12.

Travel advice on the UK government website says of St Lucia: "Local attitudes towards the LGBT community are mostly conservative throughout the Caribbean.

"Public displays of affection (such as hand-holding or kissing) between opposite or same-sex couples are uncommon. Certain homosexual acts are illegal.

"LGBT travellers should be mindful of local attitudes and be aware that public displays of affection may attract unwanted and negative attention."
