Medieval zombie game, Blight: Survival, has released a brand-new trailer to celebrate hitting a 1.5 million wishlist milestone on Steam. The game is being developed by Haenir Studio and published by Behaviour Interactive (most famous for the asymmetrical horror game Dead by Daylight).
Blight: Survival was announced all the way back in 2022, so expectations have been growing high in the years since it was first revealed. The small look at gameplay through this latest trailer is a great sign of what’s to come, despite the lack of a solid release date.
What is Blight: Survival?
In a nutshell, Blight: Survival is a game about ripping through zombies as a medieval knight, complete with plate armor and era-accurate weaponry.
Set in a no man’s land between two kingdoms at war, a plague is spreading called the Blight. Fed by the blood of those killed needlessly by endless war and spread by mushroom spores, the Blight turns peasants into mindless monsters who must be dispatched. The player character, known as a Writhen, is set out to destroy this plague and those turned by it, though other monsters (and human bandits) will make that task even more difficult.
This title feels very similar to other “monster hunting” games like Hunt: Showdown 1896, especially in its dark, historical atmosphere and the fact that multiple players can join in one match to fight evil together.
Blight: Survival’s newest trailer

The latest trailer for Blight: Survival is incredibly straightforward. The video, which runs a little under two minutes, shows off an array of brutal finishers as well as a look behind the scenes with a few of the developers as a thank you for 1.5 million wishlists on Steam.
Ulrik Langvandsbråten, Creative Director at Haenir Studio, thanked players for their continued support and explained why the game has taken so long to come out:
“We’re taking the time to make sure it pays off when the moment comes to put Blight in your hands. When we teamed up with Behaviour, we spent a lot of time digging into the original vision for Blight. It quickly became clear that if we wanted to truly do it justice, we needed to take a step back and rebuild our core systems from the ground up.”
Senior Creative Director at Behaviour Interactive, Ash Pannell, further explained the development of Blight so far:
“We’re designing Blight to be a brutal, visceral game. Combat is meant to be felt from the first clash to the final deadly blow. These finishers are just one part of our immersive combat system that we can’t wait to show you in the future. We’ve started ramping up on small scale playtests, so for anyone who’s interested in shaping the future of Blight, join us on Discord.”
Blight: Survival Release date

So far, no release window has been set by the developers, but progress has been steady over the past few years according to the consistent updates posted to the game’s Steam page.
After the game hit viral success following its reveal, the developers stated how they wanted to make sure their game met the expectations set by such overwhelming player interest, which may be a factor as to why the game has remained in development for so long.
