Bleacher Report predicted the NFL’s biggest early contract extensions in 2020 free agency, and Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins was one of the names on the list.
The outlet suggested that the Vikings would give Cousins an extension, but doing so would prove to be difficult.
Here’s what they had to say:
“Extending Cousins, who was a Pro Bowler in 2019, could free up valuable cap space. Cousins would likely require another fully guaranteed contract, but a backloaded deal could give the Vikings some breathing room this offseason.”
A move like this would make sense, because it would give Minnesota the flexibility to make deals with other players in free agency, and the salary cap situation makes it so the team probably couldn’t even sign the vast majority of rookies, if any at all. If Cousins’ big-money years are in the later years of his contract, and the money isn’t 100% guaranteed, I say they do it.
