Bleacher Report names bargain-bin free agent that could help Chargers

The Chargers went into free agency with a few holes and for the most part the team addressed those with their signings.

However, positions that still need solidified consist of quarterback, wide receiver, left tackle, cornerback, linebacker and the backfield.

While Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson have proven to be a formidable one-two punch, they could benefit from adding another running back to round out the depth chart.

Los Angeles also plan to use Ekeler as an extra wide receiver at times, so bringing in an extra body is necessary.

The Chargers have had success finding gems in the later rounds of the draft, but what if they chose to dip into the free agency pool to address the position?

Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton believes Carlos Hyde would be perfect for Los Angeles.

Hyde was able to have his best season of his career with the Texans after Lamar Miller went down with an injury. Last season marked the first time Hyde has ran for 1,000 yards and his first season above 4.0 yards per carry since 2016, along with six touchdowns.

While he is entering his eighth season, he does not have the wear and tear of a typical 30-year-old NFL running back. Hyde has played in 80 games and has started 58 of them.

With the backfield featuring Ekeler and Jackson, bringing in Hyde would allow him to serve as the bruising and physical change-of-pace back to pick up short yardage and aid in pass protection.

Should Los Angeles look to sign Hyde, a deal for a year worth $3-4 million should do it.
