Bleacher Report deems WR Chris Conley as Jags’ biggest sleeper heading into camp

Upon the acquisition of Chris Conley, we immediately warned our readers that the addition could be a very underrated one when we look back at it. Finally, it seems as if another media outlet agrees with those sentiments as Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton deemed Conley the Jags’ biggest sleeper heading into training camp.

As we’ve reported, Conley has developed a strong bond with quarterback Nick Foles and Monton has taken note to it. For that reason, he believes Conley will have a solid showing in training camp.

Conley played four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and crossed paths with Foles in 2016 when the signal-caller appeared in three contests and started one for the Chiefs. Now, together in Jacksonville, they’ve been on the same page from the beginning with the wideout in good form.

“Conley always seems to find the open areas in the defensive coverage. He’s had a strong week catching the football,” John Reid of the Florida Times-Union tweeted in May.

Conley has a chance to rise from an afterthought in Kansas City to a top-two wideout in Jacksonville if he maintains his strong showing with Foles under center.

Due to his production while there (1,238 total receiving yards and six touchdowns in four years), many fans of the Jags have been skeptical on whether Conley could lead the Jags’ receiving corps. However, he dealt with circumstances most receivers don’t have to endure while with the Chiefs as he had players like Travis Kelce, Sammy Watkins and Tyreek Hill in the receiving corps with him. The veteran receiver also endured an Achilles injury, which he wasn’t 100 percent from in 2018.

Now, Conley is in a receiving corps where he won’t be overlooked because the Jags’ unit isn’t nearly as talented as Kansas City’s, and he’s also come out to say he’s now 100 percent from his injury. Both factors set the veteran up to have a solid showing at training camp in addition to the rapport he’s built with Foles, but ultimately fans will have to play the waiting game to see if he can be the sleeper we believe he can be.
