Blaze rips through two Motherwell homes on Bonfire Night

A late night fire has ripped through two homes in Motherwell last night.

Firefighters remain on the scene this morning (November 6) after they were called to the blaze at a property around 8pm on Bonfire Night.

Residents watched as emergency services, including police, fire and ambulance, rushed to Corrie Drive in North Motherwell to tackle the blaze.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a fire at a property on Corrie Drive in Motherwell at around 8pm on Thursday,  November 5.

“The property was unoccupied at the time and the nobody was injured. The fire is not being treated as deliberate.

“Neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precaution and officers assisted the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service at the scene.”

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 7.56pm on Thursday, November 5, to reports of a fire within a semi-detached, two-storey house in Corrie Road, Motherwell.

“Operations Control immediately mobilised four fire engines to the scene.  One fire engine and crews currently remain in attendance.”

Firefighters across the West of Scotland attended more than 350 bonfires last night.

Initial figures indicate crews responded to approximately 356 bonfires between 3.30pm and 11.30pm on Thursday, November 5.

  Meanwhile, Operations Control handled more than 602 calls from members of the public in the West of Scotland.
