Blaze breaks out at student accommodation in Glasgow's West End as fire crews race to scene

A fire broke out at a student accommodation building in the West End of Glasgow this morning.

Fire crews raced to West Princes Street in the Woodlands area after the alarm was raised at around 8am on Monday, reports Glasgow Live.

Smoke was seen billowing from a window within the flat block, which sits on the site of the former Robin Anderson Theatre, while residents were evacuated onto the street.

A picture taken from the scene showed two fire engines and several firefighters in attendance.

The cause of the fire is currently unclear. There were no reported casualties.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.07am on Monday, June 19 to reports of a building fire in Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the city's West Princes Street, where firefighters worked to extinguish a fire within the building's first floor.

"Crews currently remain on scene working to make the area safe. There are no reported casualties."
