Thick black smoke coming from a United Utilities water treatment centre could be seen for miles.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service rushed to a blaze at the United Utilities plant on Stonebridge Lane in Fazakerley. The service received multiple 999 calls from members of the public after people started seeing thick black smoke coming from the building at 5.03pm.

Six fire engines were sent to the scene after a 20m high silo caught fire.

A successful businesswoman who worked as an accountant for a drug gang wailed "I can't believe it" as she was jailed.

Former professional footballer Faye Dunn was ensnared at an airport after police rumbled the million pound cannabis trafficking operation. The mum became involved in the underworld when her business ventures began to falter due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Liverpool Crown Court heard today, Tuesday, that the 38-year-old and her dad Michael Dunn operated using EncroChat - an encrypted communications platform commonly used by criminals. But authorities gained access to the network in 2020, with Operation Venetic subsequently revealing that the daughter had been using the handle StiffNinja.

Dad 'terrified' he 'would be next' after woman collapsed in gym

Gym-goers at Athelis Club & Spa started to feel ill after being exposed to "chemical fumes" from the gym pool (Google Maps)

A dad said he was "terrified" and felt like staff "did not care" after a chemical leak at an upmarket gym and spa.

On Thursday 1 September police, fire crews, and paramedics attended the Athelis Club and Spa in Warrington and two people were hospitalised. One man who did not wish to be identified said no health and safety measures were in place and it took staff "ten minutes" to ring an ambulance for a woman who had collapsed on the floor.

The man was upstairs in the infinity pool when he was hit with a "wave of what smelt like raw bleach" that started to "choke" him.
