A blaze at a Durham barn has been brought under control and expected to continue for another nine hours.
Around 1,000 tonnes of hay caught fire on land behind Durham Fire Station on Lanchester Road, with pictures showing the devastating fire ripping through the barn.
Three appliances were initially sent to tackle the fire that broke out at around 10.20pm on Tuesday.
A spokeswoman for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said the fire is now under control with 500 tonnes of hay still alight.
She said: “The fire is now burning under control and will continue for an estimated 9 hours.
"The fire is now burning under control and will continue for an estimated 9 hours. One appliance from Consett Station remains on scene.”
Firefighters spotted the blaze themselves and sent two appliances from Durham, one from Spennymoor, the TRV from Darlington and the bulk water carrier from Spennymoor to the incident.
