Blaze at Avon Valley and Wildlife Park after flames break out in storage container

A blaze broke out at a wildlife park near Bristol after a storage container caught fire.

Crews from Bath, Temple and Kingswood were called to the Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park, in Keynsham around 3pm yesterday (Monday, March 22).

At 5.30pm the blaze was still burning as firefighters used water jets to bring the flames under control. The container which caught alight had been used for storing "architectural equipment", the fire service said.

Doug, a spokesman for the park, shared videos from the scene on Facebook and reassured the public.

He said: "No one has been hurt which is great news, none of the animals have been hurt which is also great news.

Doug posted video updates on Facebook (Avon Valley Wildlife and Adventure Park)

"All we're looking at is kit and equipment which quite frankly is all replaceable. The fire brigades from Bristol and Bath are amazing, there have been three fire engines here and they are using one to suck water from the boating lake to put the fire out."

Though upbeat, Doug acknowledged that the blaze was a bitter blow for the park after a tough year and that it would "set them back" several weeks in the run-up to April 12, when they had planned to reopen.

Speaking yesterday, an Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Crews from Bath, Temple and Kingswood have been called to a fire in a storage container with architectural equipment at 15.01 at Pixash Lane, Keynsham.

"Four firefighters in breathing apparatus are using one high-pressure hose reel, one 45m jet and one covering jet to tackle the fire. The fire is still ongoing."
